6 Tips to Help You Know How to Deal with Grief

There are so many factors that can affect how a person grieves and this can be anything from the type of loss they have suffered, their religion and beliefs, upbringing, relationship, age as well as physical and mental health. It’s normal that every person has their own defense when it comes to their loss but oftentimes, what comes first is helplessness and anxiety. Anger is also a common feeling they feel while soon followed by sadness.

These feelings are natural and part of the grieving process. Knowing that they are common helps them appear normal and it is important to know that it’ll pass anytime soon at the same time. However, there are people who need more time to move on and some even have to see a counselor or therapist. You will eventually come to terms with loss and that you feel will subside in the end.

Basically, there’s no quick fix when you are grieving. If it is a major loss you are going through, then there is a possibility that it will haunt you for the next 18 months. But at least, when you get passed this time, the degree of your grief will soon be gone. Believe it or not, there are practical things that can be done to help you get through this time of loss or bereavement like for example.

Number 1. Express yourself – truth is, one way that you can find relief on these emotions you’re getting is through talking. In reality, just having a casual conversation with your friend, relatives or a health professional is enough to start with the healing process.

Number 2. Let yourself to feel the sadness – you might not believe it but accepting pain and sadness quickens the grieving process which is the same reason to why many counselors and therapists are suggesting this to their patients.

Number 3. Keep up with your routine – help yourself move on fast by simply doing the usual things you’re doing before. These can be anything from walking your dog, doing your morning exercises, etc.

Number 4. Get some sleep – you will feel tired most often during the process due to your emotional strain but say that you have problems sleeping, then that’s when you must see a counselor.

Number 5. Take a healthy diet – having a well balanced and healthy diet can actually help you deal with grief. This is also like doing two things at once because you are not just moving on from your grief but also, you are getting a well balanced and healthy body due to your diet.

Number 6. Avoid things that are numbing the pain – just what’s mentioned before, it is part of the grieving process to be open to sadness and pain. Now, if you will drink, party etc. to mask the pain you feel, then you’ll only feel worse as soon as the numbness begins to wear off.
